Fashion Communication: 3-Year Specialization Programme

The Undergraduate Diploma programme in Fashion Communication focuses on understanding how fashion can be communicated and promoted creatively via different media, through a curriculum that includes, amongst other areas, branding, trends, styling, photography, graphics and the creative use of new digital platforms. It is aimed specifically at students who are passionate about fashion, but do not want to follow the design route.

The core elements of the course aim to develop an understanding of contemporary popular culture. Along with an in-depth knowledge of the ideas used to communicate contemporary fashion design.

  • Year 1

    This level focuses on establishing a broad-based, common understanding of fashion and design for all students guiding them towards choosing their preferred pathways. Students are encouraged to research and develop individual strengths and skills in the analysis, evaluation and contextualisation of their work in the contemporary fashion marketplace.

  • Year 2

    Students will specialise and explore ideas in Fashion Communication in greater depth, through courses in Fashion Photography, Digital Application, Typography and Graphics, Promotion and Advertising. You will be introduced to new skills in all of these areas and be encouraged to research and develop an individual approach to subjects.

  • Year 3

    Students will work on cross-disciplinary projects and fashion industry collaborations through a combination of independent study, team working and external projects in areas such as events and brand promotion. This external activity provides industry awareness, as well as giving first-hand knowledge of contextualising their work in the contemporary marketplace. Students will consolidate their skills and develop their individuality through the initiation, development and completion of a final degree project. This can take the form of a fashion magazine, fashion film, website or other form of contemporary fashion communication.

    Ultimately we aim for you to graduate as confident, responsible, adaptable Fashion Communication specialists who possess a depth of knowledge in your chosen fields underpinned by a breadth of knowledge and critical understanding of the social, economic and cultural factors which impact on the professional environments in which you will work.
